Fit the bars, box, hatch, load, and route as one system.
A roof box can clamp to the bars and still be wrong for the vehicle. Verify the complete roof system, the open hatch, the loaded weight, and the route before purchase.
Verify the roof system
Identify the vehicle roof type, approved towers or rails, crossbar model, bar shape, usable width, and front-to-rear spread. Compare those measurements with both the vehicle and box instructions.
Factory rails do not automatically mean a box can be attached. Crossbars and vehicle-specific mounting hardware may still be required.

Measure hatch and antenna clearance
Open the rear hatch fully and measure from the front crossbar position to the nearest point of the open hatch. Compare that dimension with the box maker’s clearance requirement.
Also check antennas, sunroofs, tailgates, garages, parking structures, and the extra height of the installed system.

Use the lowest load limit
The vehicle roof, rails, towers, crossbars, box, and mounting hardware each have limits. The lowest applicable limit controls, and the box plus rack hardware counts toward it.
Distribute cargo according to the manuals, secure it inside the box, recheck mounting torque as directed, and adjust speed and driving for wind, height, and the changed center of gravity.
